Getting a green screen look without a green screen

Film against any background, then use Remova to remove the background and composite your subject over the video you want.

By Remova Technical Team

Steps

  1. 01

    Film normally

No green screen. A plain wall is ideal but any background works.

  2. 02

    Process the video

Upload to Remova. Set the frame skip based on length.

  3. 03

    Composite over the background video

Use CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, or any editor that supports transparent video.

  4. 04

    Sync the audio

The original audio is preserved in the output, so no separate sync is needed.

Tips

  • —Avoid busy backgrounds. A plain wall gives the cleanest cutout.
  • —Good lighting from the front matters more than from the sides.
  • —Keep your hands and hair out of the background while filming.
  • —Test on a short clip first before committing to a full video.

Common questions

Is AI segmentation as good as a green screen?

For most content, yes. Fine details like hair, wires, and glasses can be harder. For a talking-head video, it is indistinguishable.

What about live streaming?

Real-time segmentation requires different tooling. OBS has plugins that do this locally.

Does this work for interviews with multiple people?

Yes, but the model may struggle to separate overlapping people. Film each person separately if possible.
