How to get a clean LinkedIn profile picture background

Process the photo in Remova, then use the editor to composite it over a subtle gradient or solid colour.

Steps

  1. 01

Pick a photo with good lighting

Facial lighting matters more than the background. If your face is well-lit, the tool handles the rest.

  2. 02

    Process with Transparent output

Unlike ID photos, LinkedIn photos usually look better with a subtle background than pure white. Download the transparent PNG and add a background in the editor.

  3. 03

    Composite in the editor

Open the transparent PNG in the editor. Add a solid colour or a subtle gradient. Muted navy, deep green, or soft grey all look professional.

  4. 04

    Crop to square

LinkedIn uses a square crop for profile pictures. Make sure the top of your head is not cut off.

Tips

  • —A subtle gradient reads more "professional photo" than a solid block.
  • —Avoid pure white. It looks like an ID photo, not a headshot.
  • —If you have a good photo but a distracting background, this is the ideal use case.
  • —Do not over-process. If your natural background is fine, use it.

Common questions

Does this work for team photos?

Yes. Process each person's photo separately, then composite them onto the same background for a consistent team page.

What about passport-style requirements?

LinkedIn has no requirements. Use whatever looks professional to you.

Should I use a transparent or solid background?

A subtle solid or gradient reads as more professional than a busy scene. Pure white is fine if you want a corporate look.
