Steps

  1. 01

    Decide on a background

Pure white is the standard for most stores. Transparent is better if you want to change the background later. Some premium brands use off-white or a subtle colour.

  2. 02

    Gather your catalog images

All the product photos you currently have on the store. The tool takes any background.

  3. 03

Batch process in groups of 20

Split your catalog into batches of 20. Process each batch with the same settings for consistency.

  4. 04

    Upload to Shopify Files

In your Shopify admin, go to Content, Files, and upload the processed images.

  5. 05

    Replace the product images

Update each product listing to point to the new file. If you use a bulk editor, this can be done in batches.

Tips

  • —Consistent lighting in the original photos matters more than the background replacement. If some photos are dark and others bright, consider re-shooting.
  • —Shopify recommends images at 2048x2048 for the best zoom experience.
  • —Use the same background for every product in a collection. Mixing white and transparent looks unfinished.
  • —For lifestyle images, keep the original background. Replace only the flat-lay product shots.

Common questions

Does this work with the Shopify mobile app?

The tool runs in a browser, so you can process from a phone. Batch upload is easier on a desktop.

How many products can I process in a day?

There is no daily limit. The rate limit is 30 requests per minute, which is roughly 1800 images per hour if you batch.

Can I keep the original background for some images?

Yes. Mix white for main images and original backgrounds for lifestyle photos. Just be consistent across the grid.
