Steps

  1. 01

    Look up the specific requirement

US: 2x2 inches (51x51mm), white or off-white background. UK: 35x45mm, light grey or cream. Schengen: 35x45mm, light background. India: 2x2 inches, white.

  2. 02

    Take the photo

Front-facing, neutral expression. Remove glasses. Same rules as a passport photo.

  3. 03

Process with the correct output colour

Most countries want white. UK wants light grey. Set accordingly.

  4. 04

    Crop precisely

The head must fill a specific proportion of the frame. US requires 50-69 percent. Use the editor's resize tool to match.

  5. 05

    Print at the correct size

Print at 300 DPI. Some countries require a specific paper finish (matte for US, gloss for UK).

Tips

  • —Read the consulate website for your specific country. Requirements change.
  • —Some countries require the photo to be taken within the last six months.
  • —Do not wear jewellery that would appear in the photo.
  • —Keep the photo neutral. No smiling.

Common questions

Do I need a physical photo or a digital one?

Depends on the visa type. Many countries now accept a digital upload for the application and a physical photo for the interview.

What if my photo has a coloured background?

Process it in Remova with the appropriate output colour. The tool replaces the background.

Can I use the same photo for passport and visa?

Usually yes, if the requirements match. The photo should be recent enough to be valid for both.
