Processing takes **1-15 seconds** depending on file size and complexity. Requires an active internet connection. Your files are processed in real-time and automatically deleted.

✏️ **Manual Mode:** Uses color-sampling and brush tools that run 100% inside your browser using client-side AI. No data is sent to any server. You can even use it completely offline once the page loads. Processing time depends on your device's hardware.

Both modes support images AND videos.

✏️ Manual Mode: Supports video editing directly in your browser—speed depends on your device hardware. Note: Audio processing is disabled in Manual Mode. We recommend stripping the background first and adding your audio/voiceover back during your final edit.

Great question! The answer depends on which mode you're using:

🤖 Auto Mode: When you use Auto Mode to strip the background from a video file, the audio track is perfectly preserved. The tool exports as an MP4 with an alpha channel (transparent background) and the original audio intact.
✏️ Manual Mode: Manual Mode runs entirely in your browser using Canvas API. The Canvas API does not handle audio tracks—it only processes visual frames. So when you remove a background manually from a video, the audio is stripped.
Recommendation: If you need audio in your final video, use Auto Mode for video background removal. If you must use Manual Mode (for privacy or offline work), we recommend stripping the background first and adding your audio/voiceover back during your final edit using any video editing software.

Video

We use advanced deep learning models (u2net, silueta, birefnet-general-lite, and u2net_human_seg) trained on millions of images. The AI detects and separates the subject from the background in seconds. We're constantly upgrading our models for better accuracy.

Technology

We offer seven models: u2net_human_seg (best for people and hair), birefnet-general-lite (best quality, sharp details), isnet-general-use (improved edges), u2net (best general), silueta (fast, good for videos), u2netp (fastest, lightweight), and isnet-anime (best for anime/art).

Technology

The AI is highly accurate, especially with well-lit images and clear subjects. For complex images with hair or similar colors, we recommend using the "u2net_human_seg" model and enabling the "Preserve Hair" option. We're actively working to improve accuracy on complex images.

We support up to 4K resolution for images. For videos, we support up to 1080p (Full HD) output. The tool automatically optimizes resolution for the best quality-to-speed ratio.

All processing happens through our secure API. Files are temporarily stored on our servers during processing and automatically deleted immediately after. We do not store or share any of your uploaded files. For complete privacy, use Manual Mode—your files never leave your device!

Privacy

Because Manual Mode runs 100% locally on your computer, a page refresh will reset your canvas. We recommend saving your progress frequently by downloading your current cutout. Think of it like working in a sandbox—it's all right there in front of you, but if you knock it over, you start fresh. The good news? Downloads take just one click, so you can save at any stage of your edit.

Pro tip: If you're working on a complex image, save your progress every few minutes. We're exploring ways to add auto-save to local storage in a future update, so stay tuned!

Manual Mode

Manual Mode gives you complete control with color-based and drawing-based removal. Here's how to use it:

Step 1: Go to the [Background Remover Tool](/tool)
Step 2: Look for the mode selector at the top of the page—it shows "🤖 Auto Remover" by default
Step 3: Click the dropdown and select "✏️ Manual Remover"
Step 4: You'll see two tabs:

**Color-Based:** Click on the color you want to remove from your image. Adjust the "Sensitivity" slider to control how much of that color gets removed.

**Drawing-Based:** Use the brush to draw on the areas you want to keep. Use the eraser to remove unwanted parts.

Step 5: Upload your image or video and start editing!
Pro tip: Manual Mode works completely offline. Once the page loads, you can disconnect your internet and keep working. Your files never leave your device.

Manual Mode

Manual Mode is designed to be flexible, but your experience depends on your hardware:

**Desktop with mouse:** ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect. Precise brush control, easy color picking.

**Laptop trackpad:** ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good, but zoom in for fine details.

**Tablet with stylus:** ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent. Natural drawing feel.

**Smartphone touchscreen:** ⭐⭐⭐ Works, but we recommend Auto Mode for mobile. Finger painting on a small screen is tricky!

Auto Mode works identically on all devices since processing happens on our servers. So if you're on mobile, let the AI do the heavy lifting!

Manual Mode

Great question! The answer depends on which mode you're using:

🤖 Auto Mode: The server processes your image at its original upload resolution up to our system cap (currently 4096px). What you upload is what you get—no quality loss.
✏️ Manual Mode: Because processing runs entirely within your browser's current viewport canvas, extremely large images (e.g., 4K photos) may be scaled down slightly to match your browser's memory limits. This prevents your browser from crashing or freezing.
Pro tip: For ultra-high-resolution print work or professional-grade exports, use Auto Mode. For quick web-ready edits, Manual Mode is perfect.
