    The original with the shadow.

  2. 02

Use object removal for stubborn shadows

In the editor, mark the shadow area with the brush tool and let the tool inpaint that region with white.

Tips

  • —Soft shadows under products are the most common problem. Hard shadows are usually removed automatically.
  • —Reflective products (metal, glass) often have shadows that are part of the product look. Sometimes you want to keep them.
  • —If the product is white on white, the shadow is the only thing separating it from the background. Keep a faint shadow for definition.
  • —Test a few images before processing a whole catalog.

Common questions

Will this remove the drop shadow I added intentionally?

Yes. If you added a shadow in an editor, it will be removed. Add it back after background removal.

Can I add a new shadow afterward?

Yes, in the editor or another tool. Subtle drop shadows look professional.

Why does my product still have a shadow?

The tool treats shadows as part of the background if they are soft. Use the manual editor to remove specific shadow areas.
